LPL Paperless Settings

LPL offers options for individual investors and households to go green. For individuals, going paperless is straightforward. Households with multiple moving pieces may need to follow a few extra steps to become fully paperless. Whether you sign up online through LPL Account View or need manual assistance, we’re here to guide you through your paperless journey.

Individual Investors
The first step towards paperless is to sign-up for LPL Account View. LPL has quick guides on How to Get Started in Account View and How to Go Paperless.

Households
Each email address is limited to one Account View profile (one individual investor). Only the Account View profile holder can sign up for LPL paperless settings online.

LPL accounts under different SSN/TIN/EINs from the Account View profile holder will need to:

  1. Set-up paperless setting manually, or
  2. Create a unique email address for the account, enabling control of paperless settings online. Many clients, however, prefer to direct their communications to one email address.

Accounts that may require manual paperless set-up include:

  • A spouse who prefers paperless settings within a shared household email
  • A trust under an EIN
  • A trustee managing a trust under another person’s SSN
  • A custodial account (e.g., UTMA)

Manual Paperless Set-up
To manage your paperless setting manually, please send an email to your LPL representative.

Sample Email Template

Hello LPL Tech Support,

Please establish paperless settings for the account(s) below. Paperless documents should be delivered to the email: [email address]. I authorize that my paperless documents should be available under [Account View profile holder] Account View profile under: [email address].

My accounts and paperless preferences are as follows:

[Account number last four digits][Account Registration]

  • Statements: Paperless
  • Trade Confirmations: Paperless
  • Prospectus and Shareholder Communications: Paperless
  • Notices: Paperless
  • Tax Forms: Paperless

 Sincerely,

 [Your Name]


Please update the above email template with your preferences. If you prefer to have your Tax Forms mailed, remove the section from your email. Add instructions for each account going paperless manually.

Your LPL Representative will forward your email to LPL Tech Support and their team will complete your paperless set-up.

Changing Your Email Address
You can update your email address directly within Account View, or you can contact your LPL Representative for assistance.

Updating your email address will change the email associated with your account but will not update your Username. If you also want to update your Username, please reach out to your LPL Representative. We'll need to create a new Account View profile for you and delete your old one.

Troubleshooting: I’m still receiving paper or I started receiving paper after being paperless
FINRA rules require document delivery. Whenever there is a glitch in paperless delivery, LPL and fund companies will revert to mailed hardcopies.

Your Email Account
Spam filters may block email delivery. You may need to update your spam filters to allow for LPL and shareholder communications to reach your inbox.

Your inbox may be full. It happens! It can cause a failed delivery.

You may have changed your email address. Your LPL Representative can either update your email address or create a new Account View profile for you. When we do, it should refresh your paperless settings. It may, however, take a few additional steps to re-establish electronic prospectus and shareholder communications preferences.

Electronic Prospectus and Shareholder Communication Preferences
A third-party company, Broadridge, manages electronic delivery for prospectuses and shareholder communications for the securities industry. Broadridge operates InvestorDelivery.com. You may receive a mailed notice from them when you have a failed e-delivery.

Sometimes, updating Account View email will not update your email at Broadridge. In these cases, there are two solutions:

  1. Your LPL Representative can send you an LPL Electronic Prospectus and Shareholder Communication Preference form to refresh your settings.
  2. The account holder can update their email address directly with Broadridge via InvestorDelivery.com. Directions will be in your mailed notice. Unfortunately, we are unable to update this portal for you. If you do not feel comfortable using InvestorDelivery.com or have any concerns about mailed communications, please contact your LPL Representative.

After you have completed the above steps, paperless settings may take up to 60-days to be reinstated.
